Plug Independent Music Awards Tonight at 8 pm EST

Published by at 6:59 pm under MP3's,Video

Just wanted to remind you guys that the Plug Independent Music Awards are tonight at 8 pm EST. The awards will be hosted by Patton Oswalt and include performances by nominees St. Vincent, Dizzee Rascal, José Gonzalez, and The Forms DiVinci. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds is headlining. I was actually supposed to attend the awards, which is being hosted at Terminal 5 in New York City, but had a last minute change of plans. Even though tickets are sold out, you can catch the whole event on a webcast HERE.

The Plug Awards were founded to highlight outstanding accomplishments within the independent music community, and if I’m not mistaken, you still have a little time to vote for various categories via Plug’s website. Michael Showalter, who is one of my biggest idols, also did three really funny promo videos for the Plug Awards which you can see below (click “continue reading” to see last two)

Here are a few songs that are on albums that have been nominated as Best of 2007:

Beirut – Nantes

Band of Horses – Ode to LRC

Radiohead – Reckoner

Justice – D.A.N.C.E.

The National – Fake Empire

My Predictions:

Album of The Year: Radiohead – In Rainbows

New Artist of The Year: Justice

Female Arist of the Year: Emily Haines (have to admit I’m not sure)

Male Artist of the Year: Andrew Bird

Indie Album of the Year: Band of Horses – Cease to Begin

Song of the Year: Justice -D.A.N.C.E. (though if up to me, The National – Fake Empire)

Live Act: Of Montreal

Music Video: Justice: D.A.N.C.E.

Record Label of the Year: Sub Pop

Music Website of the Year: This is close. Between Pitchfork, Daytrotter, and Hype Machine. I’m going with Hype Machine.

Music Blog of the Year: Brooklyn Vegan

Online Radio Station: Either KEXP or KCRW. I’m going with KEXP.

What do you think about my predictions? Make your own in the comments!

Okay I haven’t even watched those Mikey Show videos yet, but I am just so excited that you said he was your idol. Because that man is just awesome. I’ve watched The Baxter probably too many times… but oh well. And Stella. Aw I wish Stella was still on the air. Or that the Michaels and the David would come do a stand-up act like… in my living room. ANYway yay Showalter!

I LOVE Radiohead, and I know that, technically, In Rainbows was an indie record… but doesn’t it seem a bit odd for them to be in this category?

Haha, yeah. Showalter is awesome! I liked the Baxter, and Wet Hot American Summer is my all time favorite movie. I saw him and MIB do stand up at a synagogue in DC a month or two ago. It was sweet. Have you ever seen the Stella shorts before?

Danny, I definitely agree. The main reason why I assumed that they would get best album of the year isn’t as much because I think they had the best album of the year, but that their “indie” model was so revolutionary. And they are Radiohead. Enough people must have agreed with you though about the legitimacy of their “indieness” because Arcade Fire took the award.

Ahh I just bought Wet Hot last month after my friend brought it to a party. So funny.

You’ve probably seen them already, but there are a couple videos on YouTube of Showalter as Alan Shemper singing with Of Montreal. Haha. It’s pretty great. Have you seen any of the Michael Showalter Showalter? Or heard any of his or MIB’s songs / stand-up mp3’s?

I think I’ve only seen one Stella short, the pudding one. Ahah… oh man. I don’t even know if it was pudding, but there was some sort of gelatinous blob that Mista Black was rubbing his butt on.

Haha, yeah the Stella shorts are pretty ridiculous. I’m sure they were mostly the work of David Wain, he’s the craziest of em all (exhibit A: The Ten). The Michael Showalter Showalter is awesome; I love it. The one with MIB is great. The one with Zach Galifianakis is great. Paul Rudd. They are all great. I haven’t seen Showalter with of montreal, actually, I have to check that out.

I don’t think it came out yet, but MIB has a new book that is gonna release soon.. and david wain has a web show (i’ve only seen a short clip)
